Actor. A tall, distinguished-looking leading man, and later a character player, he appeared in over 50 films and dozens of TV shows. He received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" (1952), directed by Luis Bunuel. Science Fiction fans will remember him as "The Old Man," the evil corporate executive in "RoboCop" (1987) and "RoboCop 2" (1990). O'Herlihy was born in Wexford, Ireland. He made his acting debut with Dublin's Abbey Players before coming to Hollywood in 1948. His other films include "Odd Man Out" (1947), "Macbeth" (as Macduff, 1948), "Imitation of Life" (1959), "Fail Safe" (1964), "Waterloo" (1970), "The Tamarind Seed" (1974), "MacArthur" (as Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1977), "Halloween III" (1982), and "The Dead" (1987). His last role was as Joe Kennedy in the 1998 TV movie "The Rat Pack." O'Herlihy was the brother of film and TV director Michael O'Herlihy.
