Rites Tomorrow for John Downey
Funeral services for John Louis Downey, of Portsmouth, age 70, who died Monday at 5:00 pm at a Portsmouth Hospital, will be conducted tomorrow at 4:00 pm by the Rev. R. E. Brittle at the I. O. Hill Funeral Home.
Son of the late George and Kate Downey, of Allegheney County, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Sue Downey; daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, Mrs. Virginia White, and Mrs. Ella Jenkins, all of Route 2, Suffolk; one son, Johny Downey, now serving with the U.S. Armed Forces; 19 grandchildren; four sisters, Miss Mary Lee Downey and Mrs. Ruth Downey, of Covington, VA., Mrs. Ella Downey of Alexandria, Va., Mrs. Lizzie Hyler, of Longdale, VA.; three brothers, Haley Downey, of Hampton, Jim and Lameth Downey, of Longdale.
Burial will be in Woodland Methodist Church cemetery.
*Helen Downey Wolfe should have been listed as well. I am going to assume it was an oversight that she isn't. Technically they should have also listed his children that had already died as well: Mary Downey (twin of Virginia) and Henry Downey (twin of Helen)
