Age 75, died on Tuesday, January 13, 1998 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.
She was born on March 29, 1922 in the Town of Charlestown, daughter of the late James Sr. and Julia (Boettcher) Cullen. She married Elmer H. Schmitz on March 22, 1941 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, he preceded her in death on February 5, 1987. She and her husband farmed in the Town of Rantoul and owned and operated Schmitz Amusements for many years.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, the Christian Mothers, and the G.U.G. Germania Society.
Survivors include seven children:
T.J. Schmitz, Topeka, Kansas;
Bridget (Keith) Bornemann, Chilton;
Diana (Butch) Krueger, Hilbert;
Donna (Willie) Schad, Brillion;
Sedona (Tom) Vande Hey, Sherwood;
J.R. (Sherry) Schmitz, Wilmington, Delaware;
Sam (Kelly) Schmitz, Hilbert;
15 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Pearl (Art) Bruns, Chilton; a brother, George (Mary) Cullen, New Holstein; a brother-in-law, Clarence Schmitz, Chilton; two sisters-in-law: Lucille Cullen, Hayton; and Anita Breit, Kaukauna; special friends: Charlotte Ott, Kathy Albers; Pat Miller; Bill and Connie Hilton; nieces, nephews, and many other friends. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Bliske; a sister, Bernice Schmitz; a brother, James Cullen Jr.; a sister-in-law, Erla Schmitz; two brothers-in-law: Ray and Allen Schmitz.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 1998 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, with the Rev. Rallen Stencil officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church in Hilbert from 2 p.m. on Thursday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in the name of Doris Schmitz. Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton is assist ng the family.
