Leonard J. Simonis, of Elcho, died Friday, May 3, 2013 at KHTCR-Eastview. He was 93 years old. He was born on October 10, 1919 in Cecil, a son of Joseph and Isabelle (Coulthuist) Simonis. He married Pauline Ernst on May 9, 1964 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elcho. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1998.

He was a graduate of Stevens Point High School.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at the Elcho camp. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.

Mr. Simonis owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Elcho. He also worked at Builders Service in Elcho and for the town of Elcho.

He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, fishing and swimming with his grandchildren.

Mr. Simonis was a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post #377 in Elcho.

Survivors include a step son Jacob (Connie) Ernst of Elcho; two step-daughters Theresa (Richard) Eyler, Matlacha Island, FL, and Elizabeth (John) Cozolino of Fort Meyers, FL; six step-grandchildren Linda, John, Dawn, Dianna, Julie and Susan; twelve step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a stepson, Donald Ernst, two sisters, Hilda and Dorothy and a brother Oscar.

A memorial Mass will be held on Monday May 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery where the American Legion Post #377 will conduct military rites.

Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
