CHARLES A. ANCHARSKI Major Charles A. Ancharski, U.S. Army, Retired, 83, a resident at Traditions of Hershey in Campbelltown and formerly of Hershey, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013, in the Select Specialty Hospital, Harrisburg. Born March 6, 1930 in Hazleton, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Shambelan) Ancharski. Mr. Ancharski graduated from Hazleton High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1948 and attended basic training in Fort Dix, NJ; Served in Germany and South Korea, and Attended Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA. he was commissioned as 2nd Lt. In 1956 and attended Finance Officer Graduate School in 1963 in Indianapolis, IN. He served in Germany as a Finance & Accounting Officer and was assigned to Fort Meade, MD and eventually promoted to the rank of Major. In 1968, he served in Vietnam as a financial advisor to the Vietnamese finance unit and was later finance & accounting officer at Fort Indiantown Gap until retirement in October 1971. After serving in the military he was employed at the former Commonwealth National Bank and the Defense Distribution Center in New Cumberland. He was a member of the Military Officer Association of America, The Hershey Italian Lodge, and St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille (Licata) Ancharski. He is survived by two sons, Robert Ancharski and wife, Anna, of Palmyra; David Ancharski and wife, Jody, of Hummelstown; a grandson, Robert Ancharski and wife, Carrie, and great granddaughter, Elyse, of Harrisburg. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Joan Ancharski and John Ancharski, Both of Hazleton; Frank Ancharski of Drums; Delores Oscovitch of Eagle Rock; Violet Oswald of West Hazleton; Louise Stefenkiewicz of Deptford, NJ; And Peggy Breslin of Levittown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in his church at 359 West Areba Ave., Hershey, on Tuesday, July 30th at 11:30am. Viewing will be from 9:00am – 11:00am on Tuesday morning in the Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Hershey. Interment with military honors will be in the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, following the mass.
