Freida Foster was born September 10, 1928 and passed from this life on June 1, 2010, 2010 at Rhode Island Suites, Ransom where she has resided for the past several years. Freida Marie was born in Ransom, Kansas, the second child to Dale and Irma Cofer Combest. Freida and her sister Bertha learned to play together and to work together.

She attended school at Fairview, Kansada, and graduated from Utica High School with the class of 1947. She grew up on the family farm learning to love animals, of which she has had many over her lifetime. Freida talked many times of riding her horse, Ribbon, and raised everything from the normal cats and dogs, to bucket calves, goats, chickens, and even a donkey. She loved the outdoors and before her failing health, that is where she always could be found, feeding her animals, working in her flowers, or delivering the Hutchinson News. Freida's favorite attire was her coveralls, because that meant that she was outside working. Freida also loved to work at helping others. She worked in the neighboring communities having an individual or a couple that she would care for doing everything from their cooking and cleaning to helping with any task that they had for her that day. Anything to keep busy, Freida was not one for idle time. When not caring for people or her animals, she was cooking and taking some of her fresh baked breads to friends around town or she would work on quilt blocks that she embroidered.

She was united in marriage in August of 1947 to Walter Robert Breit and to this union was born two children, Jane Ilene and Gordon James. Later she married Rollie Foster, Jr. and along came two more children, Fredric Alan and Jolene Marie. JR preceded her in death on April 12, 1979.

Freida was a member of the Utica First Christian church and did volunteer work with CASA. She enjoyed the years she worked at the Utica cafe and those she worked with. She enjoyed some travels going to visit Fred while he was stationed in the military.

Freida is survived by her four children, Jane Clark, Moreland, Gordon and wife Mary of Utica, Fred, Stewart, Tennessee, and Jolene and husband Jeff Gabel of Ness City, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one sister, Bertha Dale and husband Stacy Sitton of Genoa, Colorado, many nieces and nephews, and a community of friends.

Friends may call Thursday and Friday, 9am to 9pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. The family will be present from 7-8 pm on Friday. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 5, 2010, 10:00 at the Utica Cemetery with Pastor Howard Bever presiding. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church, Utica or the Rhode Island Suites.
