Henry Williams Dead

Sunday just after midnight Henry Williams passed to his final reward, and his death marks the passing of another Lake county veteran.

Deceased was born in Duchess County, New York, July 20, 1843. In 1857 he came with his parents to Antioch.

In the war of the rebellion he first enlisted as a three months man, but then remained six months. In 1862 he re-enlisted in Co. D. 96th Ill. Infantry and remained in the service during the war. He was in the Army of the West in Sherman’s division and started in the grand march to the sea; but in 1864 he was taken prisoner at Atlanta and confined in Andersonville for seven months. When the army was discharged at the end of the war he returned to Antioch. Here he resided until 1868 when he came to Wauconda. In 1869 he was married to Martha Rix. In 1876 they came to Libertyville.

Mr. Williams became a follower of the Lord in early youth and joined the Disciple or Christian church at Antioch where his membership remained to the present time.

He was impaired in health by the war just as were so many of the soldiers, and thirteen years ago he was prostrated so much as to be all these years confined to his home. Last May he became completely helpless and has so remained confined to his couch. In all these years of suffering he has been an example of Christian patience.

To Mr. and Mrs. Williams there were given six children, of whom four survive as mourners with their mother, namely: Charles R. of North Chicago; Mrs. Alice Reid, of Washington D.C.; and Wallie and Elmer who are yet at home. Thus an old soldier and a good man has passed from among us to his eternal home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the home. Interment was in Lakeside cemetery.
