Viola Ida (Schulte) Tait, age 92 years 8 months 30 days, of Kenosha, formerly of Rock Springs and Baraboo, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Parkside Manor in Kenosha. Viola was born on April 12, 1921, in the Township of Westfield, the daughter of Daniel and Ida (Rathjen) Schulte.

She attended Rock Elm Elementary School in Westfield County, and graduated from Reedsburg High School. She received a Teachers Certificate from Sauk County Teachers College in Reedsburg, and a bachelor's of science degree from Dominican College-Racine, in 1964.

On June 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to Robert Joseph Tait at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Baraboo. He preceded her in death in June of 1971.

She then married John Ivan Tait in March of 1972 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Kenosha. He preceded her in death in June of 1984.

Viola was an elementary school teacher and taught in rural Sauk County schools for over three years. She then moved to Kenosha where she taught at Dublin, Hannan and Jeffery Elementary schools before retiring after a 30 year teaching career.

Always a cheerful person, Viola enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Taws and Paws square dance club where they enjoyed entertaining the residents at the Kenosha Senior Citizens Center. She was also a member of the Cloverleaf Square Dance Club, Round Dance Club, Interfaith Singles Ballroom Dance Club and the Pinochle Club.

Viola enjoyed playing euchre with family members and at the Moose Club, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years.

She was a member and active in St. Thomas Catholic Church, St. Mary Friendly Center and St. Mary's Catholic Senior Center. She enjoyed meeting new people and will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.

Viola is survived by:

…a daughter, Susan (Jeff) Schenning of Kenosha;
…two grandchildren,
……Jaime (Scott) Runde of Cleveland, Ohio, and
……Michael Schenning of Kenosha;
…three great-grandchildren,
……Riese, Kaine and Quinn Runde; and
…several nieces, nephews,
…other relatives and
…friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Viola was preceded in death by:

……Milton Schulte;
…three sisters,
……Ethel Hirschinger,
……Ruth Petzke,
……Ruby Rheinschmidt; and
…a very dear and special friend, William Kirar.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 304 East St., Baraboo, with Fr. Garrett Kau officiating.

Visitation will at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.

Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Baraboo.
