Sister of James Joyce. Remembered for the fact that, when her brother threw the manuscript of "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" into the fire, she rescued it from the flames. On the 12th. April 1915, in Trieste, she married a Czech bank clerk named Frantisek Schaurek, with James as the best man. Sadly, in 1926, he took his own life. Eileen was in Dublin when this happened, did not get to hear of it until she had returned to Trieste, and refused to believe it until his coffin was disinterred and opened.
