His brother was Josiah Franklin (1657-1745) who went to New England in 1682. His nephew (Josiah's son) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Benjamin Franklin.
The graves of Thomas and his wife Eleanor were shown to Benjamin Franklin when he visited Ecton in 1758. He failed to locate the grave of his grandfather Thomas (1598-1681). One historical narrative states that Ben Franklin's grandmother was Mary Franklin, but no marriage record can be found. Other sources say his grandfather had a second wife named Elizabeth (abt 1616-1674) with no issue.
