The family originally resided in Watchet but in 1901 they moved to 'Belmont', 109, Cher Road, Minehead.
As soon as he was 18 he enlisted at Taunton as Private 34664 in the 1st Battalion of the Princess Charlotte of Wale's (Royal Berkshire Regiment) .
He died from sudden illness at Portsmouth, Hampshire, on the 21st April 1917, aged 18 years, and was buried at Plot 1304 of Minehead Cemetery. He is commemorated on the Minehead War Memorial.
Lionel's parents and brother; Frederick, are also buried at Minehead Cemetery.
