A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia, with the Revs. Kurt Simon and Drew Holloway officiating. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia or Toys for Tots.
Mr. Daume was born on Feb. 16, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of Elmer and Marea Daume.
He began teaching junior high art in August 1964 and taught in Vandalia for 34 years, excepting two years for service in the U.S. Army (1968-70). He married Yvonne Wagner in Rock Hill, Mo., on Dec. 19, 1964. Yvonne was also a teacher in Vandalia.
He was a member and Ruling Elder of First Presbyterian Church, a Boy Scout leader for nearly 10 years, a coach and a former member of Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447, all of Vandalia. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Zephyrhills, Fla., where he again served as an Elder. His hobby of making small wooden cars pleased hundreds of children through Toys for Tots and worldwide mission programs.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Paul Daume of Vandalia, Matthew Daume and his wife Candy of Teutopolis, and Michael Daume and his wife Ciara of Effingham; grandchildren, Kelsey Morrison and her husband Zach of O'Fallon, Mo., Colten Brown of Teutopolis, and Lynlie Daume and Lincoln Daume of Effingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
