Vernelle was a voice coach in the public Michigan school system & Sang light Opera in Detroit Michigan. She was affiliated with the Detroit Conservatory of Music & was a member of UCLA extension school in the voice department. She began as protégé of Madame Shumann-Heink, worked with Madame Doti at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music per Dr. William A. Howland & studied under Dr. Charles Grandville at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. She held recital tours throughout the U.S. Lead contralto roles in Light & Grand Opera throughout the west, American Light Opera Co. & San Carlo Opera Company.
Vernelle passed away on Tuesday at four pm February 4th 1964 of a heart attack in the Sinal Hospital, Hollywood, California. Her son George Peppard (actor) was by her side holding her hand as she passed away. Her body was transferred to the W. R. Hamilton Funeral Home on Cass Avenue, Detroit, Michigan for her services on February 8th 1964. Her burial was at the Northview Cemetery in West Dearborn. In her later years she lived near her only child in Hollywood California.
