Darlene Mae Kearney

Darlene Mae Kearney, the daughter of Hans and Ida Christensen, was born August 8, 1924 at Manilla, IA and died March 21, 2012 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 13 days.

Darlene attended school at Harlan. She was married to Mervin Kearney on August 25, 1942. She moved to Oakland and lived on a farm west of Oakland before moving to the family farm. Darlene lived in Oakland until the time of her death.

Darlene was a member of the Oakland Congregational Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and doing word puzzles.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Renelda, and her brother Vernon.

Darlene is survived by her husband Mervin Kearney of Oakland; her children Arnold Kearney and wife Sharon of Oakland, IA and Cynthia Perkins and husband Don of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren: Thomas, Loree, Julie, and Michael, her great grandchildren: Skyler, Cortney, Mason, and Josh; her brother Gerald Christensen; and her sister Dorothy Ann Olsen.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the Oakland Congregational Church in Oakland. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland on Friday. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
