Mr. Plummer died after open heart surgery at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago.
He was born May 26, 1925, at Waterloo, IA son of John H. Plummer and Josephine Chevalier Plummer.
He graduated from East High School and, along with the late Byron Gosden, was instrumental in staging the first annual "Swing's the Thing" pageant at East High School.
After serving as a musician in the Air Force Band during World War II, he earned his master's degree in music from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. He played saxophone with such bands as Stan Kenton, Les Elgart and Wayne King. He later taught music in the Chicago area school system.
He is survived by his wife, Faye; two sons, Jeffrey and Kelly, both at home; his mother, Josephine Plummer of Waterloo; and two brothers, William of Waterloo and Richard of Iowa City.
