Spelling for his whole name varied from document to document and even the gravestone.

Parents of Asa were Lemuel Tupper and Lydia Emerson (15 Aug 1784-19 Feb 1874). Due to a family dispute, Asa and two other siblings changed their names. Two of them took their mother's maiden name for their last name and one changed his whole name. Lydia Emerson Tupper (daughter of Asa Emerson & Persis Brown) was living in Hammonton, New Jersey with daughter Rebecca (1814-1893) when she died. Burial locations for mother and daughter are unknown.
