Judith Corina Fossum, 69, was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Redding, Calif., to William and Corina Straughan.

She grew up in Northern California and had a deep love of the ocean and redwoods. Her father was a heavy-equipment operator and worked building highways up and down the coast of southern Oregon and Northern California. Judi attended 18 elementary schools before her mother decided they needed to settle down. They bought a small grocery store in McKinleyville, Calif., Oceanview Market, which they operated until Bill and Corina decided to retire.

Judi graduated from Arcata High School in 1959 and attended Humbolt State College. She joined the U.S. Air Force and was later discharged for medical reasons. She was a competitive roller skater, earning several medals. She later taught skating. She held several positions in bookkeeping and as an office manager.

Judi lived in many places throughout her life, including San Francisco with her brother, Lynn, and later moved to Oregon, which brought her closer to Vernor and Barbara Schenck, lifelong friends who were really more family than friends.

Judi married her love, Allan J. Fossum, on Sept. 21, 1977. They were later sealed in the Timpanogos LDS Temple. They have five children: Mark (Shelley) Jones, Ann (Bruce) Murray, Mark (Lisa) Fossum, Elise Fossum and Jessica Derricott. She has 19 grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Judi and Allan helped raise four of their grandchildren, forming memories that were cherished by all.

Judi was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Judi had several hobbies that she enjoyed, such as reading, sewing, cooking and her plants. She loved to grow things, anything and everything, including various seeds from fruit or starts from some of her other plants. She also loved animals, especially primates, elephants and horses, and will be missed by her two dogs, Buster and Koba.

Judi had an incredible sense of humor and loved to laugh; a sound her husband, children and close friends will forever miss.

Judi loved living in Iona, Idaho, and had many good friends who brought so much joy to her life. One of her favorite times was always when Sally Price, one of her dearest friends, picked her up and they drove into town in Sally's T-bird with the top down.

Judi was preceded in death by her father; mother; brothers, Pat and Lynn; sister, Elyse; and granddaughter, Sarah.

For Judi's grandchildren -- Garrett, Chelsey, Kensey, Shelby, Amber, Joey, Chris, Kevin, Travis, Kelsey, Matthew, Chase, Cody, (Sarah, who she sadly never met) Megan, Lindsey, Justin and Robyn -- she would want you all to know how much she loved every one of you.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the Iona LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Byard Cox officiating.
