Son of Heinz Edi Rudy Werner Berthold and Marie Maikus. He was raised in Salt Lake City and later lived in Centerville for over 30 years.

He graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah and LaSalle University School of Law. Later was the director of the American Fund for Czechoslavakian Refugees and Indo-Chinese Refugees.

Passed away at home on February 28, 1987 from complications due to an auto accident. He was 64
