David Clark Grimmer, age 49, of Burgaw, NC died Thursday, April 13, 2017.

He was born July 6, 1967 in New Hanover County and was the son of Elizabeth Piner Grimmer Kelly of Magnolia and the late Albert Grimmer.

David graduated from Wallace Rose Hill High School where he played football and won a full scholarship to Elon College where he continued to play football. After he left Elon he continued his education at James Sprunt in Kenansville.

In addition to his loving mother and step father, Arnold Kelly, David is survived by his devoted wife, Angela Denise Johnson Grimmer of Burgaw; son, Ethan Clark Grimmer of California; brother, Kirk Alan Grimmer of Hampstead; step daughter, Brittany Marie Turner; step brother, Daniel Kelly and wife, Mary; step sister, Kim Kelly Miller and husband, Hill; paternal grandfather, Herman Piner and wife, Delphine of Wallace; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Elaine Johnson of Wallace; brother-in-law, Robert N. "Bob" Johnson of Virginia; sister-in-law, Valerie Rose Johnson of Wallace; aunts, Bertie Brown and husband, Hershall of Jacksonville, Joyce Grimmer Matthews of New Bern and Annette Grimmer Hamilton and husband Clyde of Fayetteville; uncles, Tommy Matthews of Jacksonville, Johnny F. Grimmer of Fayetteville and Harry Grimmer and wife, Elise of Charlotte; his canine companion, "Jake" and numerous cousins and friends.

David was a loving husband and caring son and brother who loved his family dearly. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was spending time with family. With a great big heart, David would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was very athletic and enjoyed playing sports, especially football and baseball. Being an avid outdoorsman, he also loved fishing and hunting. David was a strong, courageous and yet gentle man who brought out the good in all those who were near and dear to him. He will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved David.

Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Ricky Wood officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12 Noon on Tuesday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Peniel Cemetery in Willard.
