Robert Arthur Boehm World War II veteran, 85
Robert Arthur Boehm, 85 of Long Beach, Wash., died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in Raymond, Wash. He was born March 2, 1924, in Billings, Mont., to Emanuel and Bessie Boehm.

In 1941, he quit high school to join the U.S. Marines. He served in the South Pacific during World War II.

In 1949, he married Marjorie Newell of Auckland, New Zealand. She preceded him in death Nov. 28, 1961.

Mr. Boehm was a chief steward in the U.S. Merchant Marines for 35 years. He also worked as a cook in Kodiak and Bristol Bay, Alaska, for a number of summers.

Family members said that after he retired he was a noted gardener and loved hunting. He also had a deep affection for his dogs.

He is survived by a daughter, Hilary Richrod of Aberdeen, Wash.; three sons, Robert Lyle Boehm of Clifton, Kenneth Richard Boehm of Las Vegas, N.M., and Timothy Conrad Boehm of Tillamook; three grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa and Zak Boehm; and two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Adysen Boehm.
A long-time companion, Carmen Minetti, preceded him in death in 2002. A memorial will be held at a later date.

Raymond - Robert A. Boehm, a Long Beach resident for the past 20 years, died Thursday, Aug. 06, 2009, at the Willapa Harbor Care Center in Raymond. He was 85.

He was a seaman for the Merchant Marines and served in World War II.

At his request there will be no memorial service at this time. Arrangements are by Stoller's Mortuary in Raymond.
