Charles was born in Reading, Pa., on January 29, 1920, a son of the late Katie and Charles H. Hoffman.
He was the widower of Irene M. (Riegel) Hoffman, who predeceased him in 2010. They were married for 66 years.
Charles was a former member of St. Mark's UCC Church, Reading, PA 19601 and served in the U.S. Army Infantry in World War II. He later worked as a hatter and coner at the former Alexander Hat Factory. He also worked as an elevator and boiler room attendant at the Berks County Courthouse. In the 1940s he played minor league baseball with the Piedmont League and played against baseball greats such as Yogi Berra among others.
Charles is survived by 1 daughter, Susan J., wife of Harold (Skeeter) Folk, of Mohnton, Pa.; and his sister, Mildred L. Dietrich, a guest at Berks Heim. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Victoria, wife of Scott Cass, Stepfanie, wife of Alex Piniero, Max Folk, Hilary, wife of Brian Stiehler, and Lizabeth, wife of Khary Coppock; along with nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Feeney Funeral Home. Religious service will be held at 10 :00 a.m. at the Feeney Funeral Home.
