Will was born as William Kaiser and died as William Stoenner.

He was the adored first child of Josephine Ellis Kaiser. He was the stepson of Nicholas Simon (1846 - 1883), a kind and prosperous man who married Josephine when Will was just an infant and who reared him as his own. Nicholas fell over dead of a heart ailment at thirty-six and left Josephine a widow at twenty-two with three children under the age of six. Will was the stepson of Frederick Richard ("Fred") Stoermer (1858 - unknown), who married Josephine in 1885 and deserted her and their family in 1904. Around 1920, when Will was hired by an oil company in central California, the handwritten surname of "Stoermer" on his employment record was misread as "Stoenner" by the payroll office; his paycheck was made out to "William Stoenner". Will, who felt no affection for Fred Stoermer, chose to keep the name and was known thereafter as Stoenner.

He married Frances Laura Neill, aka Laura Frances Neill, daughter of Robert Hyndman McQuae Neill and Marion MacArthur, ca March 23, 1899, in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California. The couple had one child, a daughter, namely:

Goldie Laura (Stoermer) Fifield (1901-1986).

William Stoenner died on a visit to Oregon; his usual residence was Martinez, Contra Costa County, California.

He is inurned at Chapel of Memories where his mother, Josephine Ellis (Kaiser) [Simon] Stoermer; his half-brothers, Albert Bernard [Simon/] Stoermer and Leslie Reginald Stoermer; his half-sister, Eva Lydia (Simon)/(Stoermer) Burns and her husband, Robert Morris Burns; and his nieces, Gladys E. (Burns) Moran and Thelma L. (Burns) [Lee] Hutchison, are all inurned. Although the true relationships were "half", this was a close family that never thought in terms of "half". Will was the eldest of eight children who, due to death, had different fathers.
