Stephen (né Wolf Stefan Priwin) immigrated to the US in January 1936, before his parents, brother, and sister. Previn began his film career as a cutter in Berlin, then an editor for Universal and MGM. His father's second cousin Charles Previn was music director for Universal. Moving to Europe in 1950, Previn directed numerous television series, and, a decade later, he directed several features for Walt Disney in Europe, including Almost Angels, Waltz King and Escapade in Florence.
