Colonel Charles Chenevix-Trench, was born in Botley in Hampshire on the 24th of January 1839, the second son of Richard Chenevix (later Bishop of Dublin) and his wife Frances Mary (nee Trench). His grandfather was born Richard Trench – he married Melesina Chenevix (an authoress) in Paris in 1803. They retained both surnames, becoming Chenevix-Trench.

He was a Cadet before joining the Royal Artillery as Lieutenant in 1856. He was in Gibraltar from 1857 until 1861. In 1888 he was attached to the 5th Gurkha Regiment. He reached the rank of Colonel. His passion was as a printer and he described himself when retired as a Master Printer.

Charles married Emily Mary Lefroy on the 14th of February 1874 in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Their eldest child Emily Maud was born in Nova Scotia in 1875, their eldest son Charles in Ireland in 1878. Two sons, Maxwell and Christopher were born in Shoeburyness in 1880 and 1881. A further son Lawrence was born in Milton Have, Pembrokeshire in 1883. They then returned to Shoeburyness where their youngest two sons Ralph and Alfred were born. In 1891 they were living in Lewisham but by 1897 they had moved to a house in Park Road in Camberley known as Broomfield. Their son Alfred married Helen Winifred Fowler. She is buried in Grave T5 VIII.

Their eldest daughter Emily is buried in Grave U6 VIII.

Emily died at Broomfield on the 3rd of October 1919. Charles continued to live at Broomfield until his death on the 15th of October 1933.
