Otto Loeb Van Maerssen, 100, of Walnut Creek, California, passed on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in Walnut Creek, CA. He was born on Sunday, March 2, 1919.
Otto was a chemical engineer for 40 years. Otto retired in 1980, after 23 years of service to LTV Aerospace & Defense and its predecessor companies. He worked in Engineering Planning & Controls and in Engineering Cost Analysis. He continued to consult for LTV for 6 years after his retirement.
In retirement, Otto and his wife went to the San Francisco bay area (Walnut Creek, CA) to live. Prior to his passing, Otto lived in an assisted living home in Walnut Creek, where he enjoyed the company of other retirees.
Otto was Dutch, and his wife Hortensia was Venezuelan. Their daughter, Maria Charney, works for Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control and its predecessor LTV Aerospace & Defense (as did her father).
A native of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Otto lived in Dallas, Texas, before moving to Walnut Creek 38 years ago. The World War II British Army Intelligence veteran was a graduate of the University of Missouri - Rolla.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Walnut Creek, CA, and enjoyed travel, photography, and sharing time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Hortensia, who passed in 1997 at the age of 70 (January 13, 1927 - October 18, 1997).
He is survived by his daughters: Maria Charney of Grand Prairie, Texas, Patricia Hawkins of Dallas, Texas, and Veronica Logan of Walnut Creek, California; his sons: Otto Hans Van Maerssen, and Robert Van Maerssen of Montclair, New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services: Rosary on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church (2059 Mt. Diablo Blvd.) in Walnut Creek, CA 94596, with burial at Oakmont Memorial Park (2099 Reliez Valley Road) in Lafayette, CA 94549.
