Susan Melanie Brinkley, a "grander-than-life" personality, renowned Washington, DC hostess and gourmet cook died at her home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on June 2, 2019 from complications of ALS. She was 76.
Mrs. Brinkley, a daughter of John G. Bender and Elsie Espenchied Bender, was born Susan Benfer in Hamilton, Ohio. Mrs. Brinkley attended Ohio State University before moving to Washington, DC.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband David McClure Brinkley, the admired and well respected TV Journalist, and step-sons, Joel Brinkley and Alan Brinkley. She is survived by her daughter and a step-son from her first marriage, a Brinkley step-son, and a sister.
Mrs. Brinkley chose cremation and asked that her ashes be divided to bury with her late husband, David Brinkley (who is buried in Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, NC), as well as scattered over Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
