A native of Appalachia, Virginia, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1946 and enjoyed a distinguished military career. A decorated combat veteran of Korea and Vietnam, LTG Crizer earned his third star in 1978 when he was promoted to Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the United States Army in Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Metal upon his retirement from the Army and that position in 1981.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Frances Owens Crizer; a son, Captain Scott Hampton Crizer, Woodbridge, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Candice Crizer and Gerald W. McDearmon, Roanoke; four sisters, Mrs. Wilma C. Steagall, Appalachia; Mrs. Louise C. Nickels, Charlottesville; Mrs. June Jazywicki, Decatur, Ga.; Mrs. Sue C. Howard, Knoxville, Tenn.
Funeral will be Thursday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fort Myer Chapel, with interment at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by Gawler's and Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, D.C.
