Constitutional President of the Republic of Honduras. A member of the Liberal Party of Honduras, he served as president from 1 February 1920 to 1 February 1924. However, in an effort to remain in power, he became a strongman president from 1 February 1924 to 10 March 1924 when he died. Prior to becoming president, he studied in London but did not finish as his interests were more in the military. He then served as Comptroller of the Mint of Honduras from 1897 to 1899. Later, he had been declared a hero by liberals when he overthrew the dictator Francisco Bertrand Barahona, in the First Civil War of Honduras in 1919. Now a general, he became the official candidate of the Republican Liberal Party for the general elections of Honduras in 1919. He also served as Governor of Tegucigalpa from 1919 to 1920. He was elected president. He is best remembered for meeting with the presidents of Honduras , Nicaragua , and El Salvador on the USS Tacoma in the Gulf of Fonseca , under the watchful eye of the United States ambassadors , and all pledged to prevent their countries to promote revolutions against their neighbors.
