Bradenton, Florida - Gerald A. Thomas, 86 passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 6:50 PM at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Florida. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Gerald was born on September 26, 1937, in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Thomas Watkins Thomas and Lucille Carol (Morlock) Thomas.

On June 26, 1971, he married LaDonna Longmeier who survives in Bradenton. She was his loving wife for fifty-three short years.

Jerry joined the Army after graduation. He served his country well and was proud that he had the opportunity to work with Military Dogs.

He was a longtime member of St. Rose Catholic Church. A lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #370, Loyal member of the Moose and had been a member of Lima Elks, Ironworkers and The American Legion.

He worked for more than 34 years at Milcor / Lima Register Company, where he was a Union President, Foreman and Maintenance Journeyman among other positions.

Jerry and LaDonna worked and retired together on February 1, 2000.

After retirement, Jerry volunteered at the Christian Corner Community Center (Our Daily Bread II) for over 15 years. He loved playing Santa, Santa's elf, calling BINGO, stocking the kitchen, and spending time with the other volunteers and visitors. He had a kind heart and was willing to help in any way he could.

He often said his happiest times were spent with family and friends. His smile, laughter and stories will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by: daughters, Barbara Fishpaw, Bradenton, FL, Alberta (Thomas) Brooks, Abbie "Cindy" Thomas Killeen, TX, Amy (Stephen) Schroeder, Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Andrew (Christopher) Fishpaw, Joseph (Jennifer) Fishpaw, Nicholas Schroeder, Alexander Schroeder, Raymond (Kristy) Avila, Lorenzo (Crystal) Rodriguez, Kevin Suan, Ahvia Crushshon; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, sister Shirley Lamberts, Lima OH, brother Phillip (Linda) Thomas, Lima, OH, sister in laws Lorraine Bresler Lima, OH and Connie Thomas, San Antonio, TX, brother in law, Norman Longmeier Jacksonville, FL.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Gerald A Thomas Jr, Hawaii, brother Larry Thomas, San Antonio, Tx. And son in law John Fishpaw Lima, OH.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 24, 2023, at Chiles-Lamen Shawnee Chapel from 5-8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. Rose Catholic Church where Fr David Ross will officiate.

Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
