Statesman,7th Prime Minister of Afghanistan. A member of the Progressive Democratic Party of Afghanistan, he served as prime minister from 2 November 1965 to 11 October 1967. Prior to becoming prime minister he was a journalist after graduating from high school. He then became Afghan ambassador to Britain, the United States and Pakistan from 1955 to 1963. He is best remembered for founding the Afgan Jam’iat Demokrate-ye Mottaraqi or Progressive Democratic Party in 1966. He was arrested in 1973 and died in prison amid rumors of suicide and torture.
