1st Lebanese President. He served as the first President of Lebanon from September 21, 1943 to September 18, 1952. He also served as prime minister of Lebanon during two separate tenures (May 5, 1927 to August 10, 1928 and May 9, 1929 to May 11, 1929). He studied law in his early days. He later founded the Constitutional Bloc party. During the late 1920s, he served two tenures as prime minister of the state of Greater Lebanon, which was a part of the French Mandate. On September 21, 1943, he was elected president of the country, but due to his opposition to the French Mandate, he was later arrested on November 11th of that year. He was released on November 22, which later became the country's national independence day. He went on to serve as president for the next nine years before major corruption in his administration forced him to resign in September of 1952.
