Robert Alexander Lewis's father was Captain Fielding Lewis, Jr. (1751-1803), eldest son of Col. Fielding (1725-81) and Betty Washington Lewis (1733-97), who was born in Fredericksburg, Va. He served in the Revolution and later made his home in Fairfax County, Va. He married (1) in 1769, Ann "Nancy" Alexander (1756-c88), daughter of Gerard Alexander, of Alexandria, Va. Their seven children were George Warner (c1770-ante1803)(dsp); Elizabeth Alexander (c1772-1820/23) who married c1789, her second cousin, Barren County, Ky. Judge Alexander Elliott Spotswood (1769-1843), son of Col. Alexander and Elizabeth Washington Spotswood; Fielding Augustine (c1774-)(dsp); Lt. Charles A. (1775-1829) a naval officer in the War of 1812 who married in 1815, Jane Davison (c1790-1862); Robert Alexander (1777:1784-c1829); John Washington (1785-1814) who died during the War of 1812; and Ann Alexander Lewis (1787-1835) who married in 1808, Thomas Davison (c1778-1854). Captain Lewis married (2) in 1789, Elizabeth Dade (-c1805). Their daughters were Catherine Dade (c1790-1852) who married in 1809, Col. Henry Chew Dade (c1776-1841); and Lucinda E. Lewis (c1787-) who married in 1814, attorney Gilson Foote (1791-1851), of Macon, Ms.
