Artist. Born in Wales the son of a schoolmaster and organist, Sydenham was a published illustrator of plants, birds, and other animals. He provided illustrations for "Cynographia Britannica" which was a comprehensive book on the breeds of dogs in Britain published in 1800. He created over 1500 watercolours for "Botanical Magazine" between the years 1787 and 1815. He provided illustrations to several encyclopedias including "Ree's Cyclopedia" and "Pantologia." He also illustrated "New Floral Britannica" in 1812 and "The Botanical Register" from 1815 to 1819. Ceramic maker Spode was inspired by his work as were other potters.
