Lawyer, Author, and Actor. Born into a merchant family in County Roscommon, Ireland, he attended the College of Saint-Omer in France studying Latin and Greek Classics. During his long life, he worked as an actor, barrister, journalist, and playwright. His works include the biographies: "An Essay on the Life and Genius of Samuel Johnson," 1792; "Fielding's Works," 1762 and "Life of David Garrick," 1801; as well as dramas: "The Apprentice;" "The Way to Keep Him, "1760; "Zenobia," 1768; and "The Citizen," first produced at Drury Lane in 1761. He was appointed Commissioner of Bankruptcy in 1803. He was buried on 26 June 1805 per the registry of burials at St. Paul Hammersmith in the year 1805.
