Olympic Athlete and Military Figure. He was a rower who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the English coxed four team. He was the strokerman of the Thames Rowing Club which won a Silver Medal for Great Britain. He also competed as a member of the Thames crew in the Henley Royal Regatta winning the Stewards Challenge Cup in 1909 and 1911; the Silver Goblets and Nickall's Challenge Cup in 1912; and the Fawley cup at the 1919 Victory Regatta. Additionally he was a forward for the Richmond rugby team and, as a boxer, was runner-up in the 1910 ABA heavyweight final. During World War I he was commissioned into the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry and was awarded the British War Medal and British Victory Medal.
