Bessie May (Gentry) (Riley) Crawford was born on April 28, 1900 in Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee, and she was the daughter of Wesley Davis Gentry (1876–1932) and his wife Susan Nancy Jane "Susie" (Norris) Gentry (1872–1962).
She was married 1st on April 28, 1918 in Cookeville, Putnam County as the 1st wife of George Tillman Riley (1897–1955), who was born in Baxter, the son of John David Riley (1861–1938) and Millie Ann (Godsey) Riley (1862–1937). It would appear that sometime before October 1930 Bessie and George were divorced, because George was married 2nd on October 28, 1930 in Smith County to Maggie Doyen Rippetoe (1907–1955). Then, sometime after the 1940 census Bessie was married 2nd to -- Crawford.
Living at 1321 Whites Creek Pike in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, Bessie was 74 years old when she died September 21, 1974 at a local infirmary.
Survivors included daughters Martha Carter & husband John Carter, Mrs Mary Cagle, and Mrs Hazel Lee, all in Nashville, sons Howard Dozier Riley of Nashville, Herbert Lee Riley at San Bernardino, California and Robert Eugene Riley in Cottontown, Tennessee, sisters Mrs Bertha Nicholas and Mrs Jim Sewell, both of Baxter Mrs Maude Brewington at Bycrus, Ohio and Mrs Alfred Palk in Nashville, brothers William Lee Gentry of Coalinga, California and Henry Davis Gentry at Dover, Delaware, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on September 24th at Woodlawn Chapel of Roses, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
