Nepalese Gurkha and recipient of the British Victoria Cross for actions during the Malayan Emergency. He belonged to the Begha Clan of the Limbu people. On 21 November 1965, while serving as a lance corporal in the 2nd Battalion, 10th Princess Mary's Own Gurkha Rifles of the British Army in Sarawak, Borneo, he and the other members of an advance party of Gurkhas encountered a superior force of Indonesians holding a position at the top of a hill. Limbu and two other men advanced on this position, but were fired upon. At this, Limbu rushed the enemy position and killed the sentry with a grenade. The remaining enemy soldiers opened fire on the three Gurkhas, wounding the two men with Limbu. Under heavy enemy fire, Limbu then made three trips into the open, exposing himself to enemy fire. The first two trips were to retrieve his wounded comrades and get them to safety. On the third trip, he retrieved their Bren gun and used it to charge the enemy positions. Later in his military career, he was promoted to the rank of captain and made a Queen's Gurkha Officer.
