Posthumously known as Petronila O'Higgins, she was a Chilean mestizo woman and the unrecognized daughter of the Chilean national hero and liberator Bernardo O'Higgins, with her mother being Patricia Rodríguez, the Mapuche servant of the O'Higgins family. Her figure, together with the relationship that his father had with her, have been used to understand the relationship with the Chilean government and the Mapuche people.
