AUGUST 3, 1943 – OCTOBER 12, 2022

IN THE CARE OF
Marengo-Union Funeral Home
Shirley R. Hinz, 79, of Marengo, IL passed away on October 12, 2022. Shirley was born on August 3, 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Hubert and Alma Schultz. At a young age Shirley and her family moved to Illinois. She grew up on a farm in Woodstock and at a young age was cooking large meals for all those that worked on the farm. Shirley also loved to show her animals and would compete at local fairs in the area. On January 23, 1965, Shirley married Wayne Hinz. Shirley and Wayne met at the 4H Busy Beavers Club in Cary, IL and were high school sweethearts. Shirley graduated from Woodstock High School in 1961 and was a true Blue Streak at heart. She spent the last 3 years cheering on her Blue Streak granddaughter's volleyball team. There were many hours spent organizing and planning her class reunions because her classmates were so dear to her. For over 20 years Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at the Floor to Ceiling Store in Woodstock IL.

Shirley and Wayne were a very adventurous couple. They loved to spend their winters up north at their cabin, snowmobiling. They were very active in the IASC, the Region 5 snowmobile clubs, and the local Marengo Snow Goers Club. They met many close and special friends over the years snowmobiling.

Shirley and Wayne opened their home in Marengo and Boulder Junction WI to everyone. Shirley was a wonderful host and had the beautiful gift of hospitality. She was always cooking a nice hot meal for her family and those who would visit with enough to take some home. Her hospitality will be deeply missed amongst her family and friends.

Shirley was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church of Marengo. Shirley was a faithful and devoted wife to Wayne for 57 years. She was a fiercely devoted Mother, grandmother, and friend. She welcomed anyone into her family with open arms and her gift of serving. The was nothing she loved more than accommodating and serving those around her. She was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by many. We rejoice for her that she will be reunited with her Lord and Savior and her dear husband Wayne.

Shirley is survived by her children, Brian Hinz and Jennifer (Daniel) Cordell; her grandchildren, Alexandria, Brian Jr., Cheyanne, Kennedy, Hayden; great granddaughter, Iris; sister, Beverly (late Ken) Sawallisch; and many other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Hinz; brother, Lester Schultz; parents, Hubert, and Alma Schultz.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 4pm to 8pm at Zion Lutheran Church (408 Jackson St, Marengo, IL).
Interment to follow at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, IL.
