Funeral services for Arnold R. Gerdes, 65, of Lake Park, were held Monday, March 24, 1986, 11:00 a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Lake Park, Iowa with Rev. William Marten officiating. Mr. Gerdes died Thursday, March 20, at his home. Marlys Stahly, organist, accompanied Marc Jacobsen, soloist, as he sang "I'm But a Stranger Here," "Abide With Me" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pallbearers were Don Hansen, Mark Gerdes, Dennis Gerdes, John Louscher, Jim Lubben and Arnold Stofferahn. Interment was in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Lake Park, Iowa. Military services were held by the Lake Park American Legion.
Arnold Raymond Gerdes was born to Tjark and Theresa Gerdes at Ewington Twp, Minn, on July 6, 1920. He attended school at Okabena, MN, graduating in 1938. On Jan. 19, 1942 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Konold at Worthington, Minn, and to this union two children, one son, Lowell, and one daughter, Karon, were born. Arnold farmed for 19 years in Round Lake Township. He was in the construction business in the Sioux Valley/Lake Park area for 25 years, later retiring in Lake Park. Arnold was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Ewington, Minn, and was baptized and confirmed there.
Arnold served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an active member of the Sioux Valley and Lake Park Legion until his death. He served on various community and local committees. Arnold is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Lake Park, daughter Karon (Mrs. C. Gerald Gubbrud) of Hudson, S.D., son Lowell of Owatonna, MN, six grandchildren, and one brother, Virgil of Lakefield, Minn.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lester.
