Architect. A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he was the principal designer of the world famous Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. He was forced to resign from the project seven years before the completion date in 1973, do to escalating cost overruns, design disagreements and construction delays. In 2003 he was awarded the distinguished Pritzker Prize for architecture, and was the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Sydney. Considered one of the great architectural wonders of the modern era, the Sydney Opera House was added to the United Nation's World Heritage Site in 2007.
