Leona M. Laut, 93, formerly of 115 S. Franklin St., New Bremen, died at 3 a.m. Feb. 24, 2002 at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster, where she had resided since August 1992. She was born July 13, 1908 in Anna to Louis and Margaret (McCullough) Nolte. On July 14, 1932, she married Melville Laut and he died July 16, 1982.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews including Louis and Jeanette Nolte, Botkins.

Deceased are two brothers: Melvin and Clarence Nolte; a sister, Waneta Wrigley; two half-brothers, Edward and Fred Nolte; and a half-sister, Clara Nolte.

A 1925 graduate of Anna High School, she received nurse's training at St. Rita's School of Nursing, Lima. She worked as a private home nurse until she married and assisted her husband in operating the family jewelry store in New Bremen. She also was employed by the Village of New Bremen, receiving utility payments at the jewelry store. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, St. Marys.

Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund or Hospice of Darke/Mercer Counties.
