Information about Dr. George Walker Hyde can be found in the "History of De Witt County, Illinois: with illustrations descriptive of the scenery, and biographical sketches of some of the people." Dr. George Walker Hyde was born in Packington, England and married Sarah A. Owen on November 21, 1850 in England. He was a physician and a cabinet maker in England and his residence there was in Aston, Warwickshire. He arrived in America at Point Levi on the Steamer Indiana. His wife and three of his children followed in 1859 on the steamship "North America." In Onarga, Illinois he co-partnered with his wife's brother's John and Abram Owen in the hardware trade and the name of the business was "Owen, Hyde, and Owen. Dr. Hyde furthered his education in Clinton and De Witt, Illinois at the Eclectic Medical Institute. Dr. Hyde was in De Witt, Illinois by November of 1872. He was apparently a very well loved physician, as recently, I have been contacted by a descendant of a family who had a photo of his in their possession.
