Lavera Pearl McCloskey was born May 4, 1919, in Issaquah, Washington, the daughter of Peter James McCloskey and Pearl Tibbets. She grew up in Issaquah and graduated from Issaquah High School.

In 1937, at the age of eighteen, Lavera married Forrest Preston Mitchell.

The young couple had two daughters: Lennea Benita (O'Roke) and Lavon Rita (Simmons).

Forrest died in November, 1972 at the age of 55.

Lavera later married Ray Hood in Tacoma in 1980.
Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She was a lifelong resident of Issaquah. She died June 11 2005, at Providence Marianwood in Issaquah. at the age of 86.

Survivors include her second husband, Ray Hood, daughters, Lennea O'Roke of Long Branch, Wash., and Lavon Simmons of Issaquah; stepdaughters Trisha Willards of Seattle, Doris Crawford of Eatonville and Diana Driver of Federal Way; stepsons Robin Hood of Covington and Bill Hood of Wisconsin; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
