The daughter of Milo William Kibbe and Corine Alice Stith. A granddaughter of KS State Senator William E. Kibbe and Pamelia Weatherwax. A sibling of William Leonard Kibbe, Alice Kibbe (m1: Rutherford) and Winnifred Kibbe (m1: Foreman).

Edith was married Francis Bestard toward the end of WWII. They soon separated but did not divorce.

Edith graduated from Ottawa, Franklin Co., KS highschool in 1917. She earned her M.A. in French, while living in France during the 1930's. She later taught French, German, Latin, and Spanish at the college level in Kansas, Mississippi, and Eureka Springs, Arkansas into the 1950's. In 1953, Edith joined with Cora Pinkney Call and published The Ozark Gardens magazine in Eureka Springs, Arkansas until 1967. Her collection of back editions was donated by her to the University of Arkansas libraries on October 26, 1987. Her mind remained sharp and her kindness and sense of humor intact up through her 98th birthday. Her health failed at age 99, and Edith died at age 100, just 19 days before her 101st birthday.
