Herman Alva MITCHELL was the only son of Willis Alva MITCHELL and Lucile Erma McNEAL. He was born in Bloomington Indiana but moved with his family to Issaquah Washington when he was fourteen.

After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from 1952 to 1956.

He married Jeanette L. DUNBAR May 3, 1955 in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai, Idaho. Together Herman and Jeanette had three children:

Herman retired from Western Cabinet and Millwork in Woodinville, Washington in 1988. He later owned and operated Papa's Tree Farm in Hobart Washington. His interests included fishing, hunting, travel, and working on the tree farm.

He died of cancer 11 Apr 2006 at the age of 73.
