CAMBRIDGE - Robert Victor Mehltretter, age 86, of Cambridge, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at the Don and Marilyn HospiceCare Center in Madison. Robert was born on Aug. 12, 1920, the son of Fred and Mary (Schoenning) Mehltretter.

Bob graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1938. During college he worked as a lifeguard at Lake Ripley Park. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, seeing duty in World War II from 1942 until 1945. He served as a radar mechanic on the B29 Aircraft.

On Dec. 6, 1943, Robert married Dorothy Marie Jones. Dorothy preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2000. After the war, Bob worked at Moe Light in Fort Atkinson, and later Cirves Electric and Badger Electric in Madison until his retirement.

Bob was a member of the Deerfield/Cambridge V.F.W. Post 9424 for a number of years and a member of IBEW Local No. 159 since 1957.

Surviving are: son, Robert R. (Holly) Mehltretter of N. Mankato, Minn.; daughter, Ann M. (Paul Ladwig) Bertram of Cottage Grove; and son, Donald L. (Denise) Mehltretter of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Swanson of Cambridge, David Mehltretter of Green Bay, Alan (Ann) Mehltretter of Mankato, Minn., Paul Mehltretter of Mankato, Minn., granddaughter, Anna (Jason) Knish of Waterville, Minn., and Mickey (Matthew) Eagen of Deerfield; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Hunter, and Ariel; brother, Maurice (Evelyn) Mehltretter of Deerfield; and a special friend, Rita Loose of Marhsall.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James; and three sisters.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the NITARDY FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Cambridge. Inurnment will follow with military rites in the Lake Ripley Cemetery, Town of Oakland.
