Lechner, Melvin A. Sr. age 90, of Butler Township, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the Vandalia Park Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. He was born May 28, 1915 in Dayton, son of the late Arthur & Edith Lechner. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Arthur Jr. and Frank Lechner Sr. Mr. Lechner retired from the Standard Register after 40 years of service in the Carbon Dept.; also retired from the Butler Township Fire Dept. as a Captain after 31 years of faithful, dedicated service as Fireman & EMT. He was known as "Pappy" during his 10 years of service at the A.T.A. Trapshooting events. He was life member and past president of the American Slovak Club and life member of the Czechoslovakian Club.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth (Knight) Lechner; sons, Melvin A. Lechner Jr. & wife Dorothy of Butler Twp. and Gary R. Lechner & wife Deb of Butler Twp.; grandsons, Jeffrey Lechner of Clayton, Scott Lechner of Butler Twp.; grandchildren, Linda Laymon of Tipp City, Andrea & husband Brad Canan of Vandalia; great grandchildren, Samantha Lechner, SC, Shelby Lechner, Piqua, Sydney & Zachary Laymon of Tipp City; brother-in-law, DeForest Knight & wife Evelyn of FL; sister-in-law, Anna Knight of Potsdam and many nieces, nephews & friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 15, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Vandalia with Fr. Francis Keferi officiating. Burial at Polk Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M.
