He was born July 14, 1914, in Scotland County, MO, to Herbert and Abigail Rice Kapfer.
He married Aves Wishart, September 19, 1941, in Edina, MO.
He was a farmer near Milton, IA, until his retirement and was a member of the National Polled Hereford Association, Iowa Beef Improvement Association and the Iowa Cattleman's Association. He had been a member of the Milton School Board and Milton and Bloomfield Lions Clubs for 40 years, receiving recognition from the state organization. He had been active in the Milton Christian Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder until transferring his membership to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Bloomfield, IA.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Thomas Kapfer of Stacy, MI, and David Kapfer of Boone, IA; six grandsons; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Max and Earl Kapfer, Baring, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Kapfer and Velma Adams.
Funeral services were held April 16, 2002, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, IA, with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial was in the Greensburg Cemetery in Greensburg, MO. Casket bearers were Brent, Shawn, Jeremy, Scott, Paul, Zachary, Carl and Joel Kapfer. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Bloomfield, IA. Wagler's Funeral Home, Ltd., Bloomfield, IA, was in charge of arrangements.
