He was the oldest son of Jackson and Elizabeth Dalton Seymour.

Isom Seymour married Miss Mary R. Duncan, daughter of John and Adeline Duncan.

By 1878, they had four children:
Edith E. Seymour
Edna M. Seymour
Margaret Seymour

In Isom's last will, he left the farm and residence in Franklin to his wife, Mary R. Seymour and his son, Russell Yates Seymour, for their life time. After their death to be divided equally between the other children: Edith Lankford, Edna Woods, Maggie Snow, Leon Seymour, Stephen Seymour, Gertrude Olive, Grover Seymour, and Orien Seymour.
